We wouldn’t have believed what this bathroom looked like originally if we hadn’t seen it before. Cramped built-ins permeated the space. It was a staid throwback to the 1980s, covered in white. Lots of square white tile, a white built-in tub with deck, and white traditional vanity cabinets with a small shower enclosure.

Now, this space is warm, inviting, and full of soft color. Quartzite counters cap the dark inset cabinetry, their warm color, and multi-colored marble offset the richly colored wood tones throughout the space. A large soaking tub replaces a built-in whirlpool.

The principles of aging-in-place guided the design of a new, large 2 person shower. A built-in bench, capped with warm quartzite, sits next to a slide bar with a hand shower and grab bar for seated showering when needed. A handy towel rack above the bench provides a place for towels at an easy reach without having to step out of the space.

Traditional accents ground the room while maintaining a contemporary feel. An inlaid tile rug on the floor, decorative framed mirrors, polished nickel fixtures, and a furniture-style vanity make the room feel luxurious yet inviting.
